Upload Media

You can add media (video, audio, image, PDF) to a course in two ways:

  • Upload a file from your computer
  • Import a file hosted elsewhere (YouTube, Dropbox, UBC WorkSpace, or MediaSite)

Upload a File from your Computer

  1. Click Upload in the left hand menu.
  2. Choose a course to upload to.
  3. Choose a location to share to.
    • You can share to an assignment hand-in, playlist, group or user in the course.
    • Or, you can keep your upload private. (You may share it later.)
  4. Click Choose file to browse for a file from your computer.
  5. Add a Title, and include an optional Description.
  6. Select a copyright permission.
  7. Click Upload.

To upload multiple files at once, click Choose More Files.

A spinning wheel will appear indicating that the media is uploading. Do not close the browser or press the back button at this point until the media is finished uploading. (The message will change from orange to green.)

After your media is uploaded, you can check its status under the “Shared Media” tab (or in the “My Private Media” tab if you chose to keep it hidden).

For instructions on how to share media from “My Private Media”, click here.

Import a File Hosted Elsewhere

You can import media that is hosted somewhere else (YouTube, Dropbox, UBC WorkSpace, or MediaSite) as long as a direct URL to the media file is available.

  1. Click Upload in the left hand menu.
  2. Choose a course to upload to.
  3. Select where you will be importing your media from. (e.g. YouTube).
  4. Choose a location to share to.
    • You can share to an assignment hand-in, playlist, group or user in the course.
    • Or, you can keep your upload private. (You may share it later.)
  5. Paste the direct URL to the media. (e.g. https://youtu.be/vu-_XMeo1tk)
  6. Optional: include a start time and/or end time of where you want the media to start and stop playing. Leave it blank if you want viewers to view the whole media.
  7. Click Upload.

NOTES:

  • For YouTube imports, the full URL, shortlink URL, and YouTube code will all work
  • For MediaSite imports, only completed recordings can be imported, live recordings are not yet supported
  • For Direct Link to MP4 imports, only .mp4 files are supported
