Upload Media

You can add media (video, audio, image, PDF) to a course in two ways:

Uploading files to a course is a setting that instructors will need to apply. Contact your instructor for assistance if you cannot access this function.

Upload a File from your Computer

  1. Click Add New in the left hand menu
  2. Click on the Upload a file button
  3. From the Site drop-down, select a course/collection
  4. From the Sharing to drop-down, select a playlist, group, assignment, user name, or leave private
  5. Click Choose file to browse for a file from your computer
  6. Add a Title, and include an optional Description
  7. Select a copyright permission
  8. Click Upload or Choose More Files to upload multiple files
    Important: A spinning wheel will appear indicating that the media is uploading. Do not close the browser or press the back button at this point until the media is finished uploading. (The message will change from orange to green.)

After your media is uploaded, you can check its status under the Shared Media tab (or in the My Private Media tab if you chose to keep it hidden).

Import a File Hosted Elsewhere

You can import media that is hosted somewhere else (YouTube, Dropbox, UBC WorkSpace, or MediaSite) as long as a direct URL to the media file is available.

  1. Click Add New in the left hand menu
  2. Click on Upload a file
  3. From the Site drop-down, select a course/collection
  4. From the Upload file from drop-down, select a media platform
  5. From the Sharing to drop-down, select a playlist, group, assignment, user name, or leave private
  6. Paste the direct URL to the media. (e.g. https://youtu.be/vu-_XMeo1tk)
  7. Optional: include a start time and/or end time of where you want the media to start and stop playing. Leave it blank if you want viewers to view the whole media.
  8. Click Upload.

Record a Video

  1. Click Add New in the left hand menu
  2. Click on the Record Video button
  3. You may get a pop-up requesting for access to your webcam, click Allow
  4. Click on the Red Circle Icon in the video preview box to start your recording
  5. Click on the Stop Icon to end the recording
  6. Add a Title
  7. Optional: Add a Description
  8. Click Upload
    Important:
    A spinning wheel will appear indicating that the media is uploading. Do not close the browser or press the back button at this point until the media is finished uploading. (The message will change from orange to green.)
  9. Click on the My Private Media tab at the top

Record Audio

  1. Click Add New in the left hand menu
  2. Click on the Record audio button
  3. You may get a pop-up requesting for access to your webcam, click Allow
  4. Click on the Red Microphone Icon to start your recording
  5. Click on the Stop Icon to end the recording
  6. Add a Title
  7. Optional: Add a Description
  8. Click Upload

  9. Click on the My Private Media tab at the top

NOTES:

  • For YouTube imports, the full URL, shortlink URL, and YouTube code will all work
  • For Direct Link to MP4 imports, only .mp4 files are supported
